Waymakers Learning Barn

Where struggling learners find their way

Hi, I’m Felicia Johnson, a reading tutor and homeschool consultant specializing in helping children with dyslexia and other learning differences thrive. As a mother of eight and a veteran homeschooler of over twenty years, I’ve spent my life creating customized, hands-on learning experiences for children who don’t fit the traditional mold. I combine multi-sensory reading strategies with real-world, engaging activities to help students build confidence, strengthen their skills, and rediscover a love of learning. Through my work at The Waymakers Learning Barn, I offer a supportive, encouraging environment where struggling learners can finally experience success in a way that works for them.

Tobie brings a calm, steady presence to The Waymakers Learning Barn, along with a deep love for both animals and children. She is currently completing her certification through Pet Partners to provide animal-assisted therapy for children with special needs. Having grown up in the barn, Tobie is a trained farrier and has spent years caring for and working closely with a wide variety of animals.

Tobie’s passion for this work is personal. She grew up alongside a special needs sister and understands the importance of patience, compassion, and meeting each child where they are. She also navigates dyslexia herself, giving her a unique ability to connect with and encourage students who may be struggling in traditional learning environments.

With her gentle approach and lived experience, Tobie helps create a safe, supportive space where children can build confidence, develop skills, and feel truly understood.

Learning Barn Sessions

One-on-One Learning Session (1 Hour)

Each one-on-one session at The Waymakers Learning Barn is thoughtfully designed to meet your child right where they are. Our time together is divided into two intentional parts: 30 minutes of focused, multi-sensory “book work” to build reading and learning skills, followed by 30 minutes of guided animal interaction to support regulation, confidence, and connection.

During the academic portion, your child will engage in personalized, hands-on learning strategies tailored specifically for struggling or dyslexic learners—no busywork, no overwhelm. Then, through calm, structured time with animals, children are able to relax, process, and build confidence in a low-pressure environment.

This unique combination helps learning “stick” while also nurturing the whole child—academically, emotionally, and socially. Each session is designed not just to teach, but to help your child experience success in a way that feels natural and encouraging.

Learning Barn Program

The Waymakers Learning Barn Membership

Our membership program is designed for families who want consistent support, steady progress, and a learning experience their child can truly thrive in. This is more than tutoring—it’s a structured, relationship-based approach to helping struggling learners grow in both skill and confidence.

Members receive weekly one-on-one sessions that combine 30 minutes of targeted, multi-sensory instruction with 30 minutes of intentional animal-assisted learning. This rhythm allows children to build foundational skills while also developing focus, emotional regulation, and a sense of accomplishment.

In addition to weekly sessions, members are invited to a monthly Learning Barn group experience, where children participate in hands-on farm activities, collaborative learning, and social skill development in a supportive, low-pressure setting.

Throughout the month, parents receive simple, clear insight into their child’s progress, along with encouragement and guidance along the way. Our goal is not just improvement on paper—but real, lasting growth in your child’s ability, confidence, and love of learning.

This is a place where children who struggle finally begin to succeed—and where families feel supported every step of the way.
